Does my cat have whisker stress?

A cat's whiskers send feedback on distance, direction and even the surface texture of objects. While this is most useful for navigation, cats prefer to eat in peace and quiet, and if their whiskers are constantly touching the surface of the bowl this can be irritating and excessively stimulating to their senses, a syndrome known as whisker stress.

If you notice your cat is putting off eating from their bowl, even though he or she is visibly hungry, they may be experiencing whisker stress.
